This whole concept of dating-turned-career is the result of a bad break-up and my friend’s determination to get me back into the dating game. As I flipped through the pages of The Rules, He’s Not That Into You, Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, I realized that the rules of dating are amazingly applicable to the world of work. Playing Hard to Get, Being Willing to Walk Away, Not Giving Your Milk (work) Away for Free, these are the basic tenants of garnering respect and leverage at the office.
This is one of my favorite books in that it’s a fun way of approaching career and I’m always looking for ways to make the subject less sleepy—both for you to read and me to write. The other amazing thing about this book is that it was optioned by Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, the guys (and Academy Award Winners) who produced American Beauty, Milk, and Silver Linings Playbook just to name a few. This option has been extended again and again. When asked why it’s taking so long, I’ve been told to not get my knickers in a twist, a fictional rendition of this concept will take a while. Stay tuned!
